Bloodlines Walking series thatcurrentlyconsists of nine main games, seventeen spin-off games,severalshort films and various transmedia projects. Each of themain gameshave spawned novelizations, adapting and adding to thestory oftheir respective game.The gameplay, while varying slightly from game to game, falls inthehistoric action-adventure genre, with a heavy emphasis onstealth,combat and free-running. The series took inspiration fromthe novelAlam by the Sloven.Within the franchise Abster Industries is amega-corporationconglomerate with multiple branches, whom secretlyis run by themodern- Knights of Templar. The company is the presentday mainantagonist of the franchise. Abstergo secretly created adevicecalled "animus", a fictional device that allows it's usersto"re-live" and experience the memories of their geneticancestorswithin their bloodline, this is done trough avirtualsimulation.While the game is presented through protagonist Miles, the bulkofthe game is played as Desmond experiences the memories ofhisancestors through an advanced device called the Animus.Thisprovides a means of a diegetic interface, showingDesmond'sancestor's health, equipment, goals, and other features aspart ofthe Animus interface. The Animus is based on the playercontrollingthe assassin to maintain the synchronization betweenDesmond andhis ancestor's memories.The games use the concept of "active" versus "passive" moves,with"active" moves, such as running, climbing the sides ofbuildings,or jumping between rooftops, more likely to alert theattention ofnearby guards. When the guards become alerted, theplayer musteither fight them or break their line of sight andlocate a hidingplace, such as a haystack or a well, and wait untilthe guards'alert is reduced.
